The full version of Karl Lagerfeld’s latest short film for the fashion house has finally arrived!! Part mini movie and part music video, “Reincarnation” reenacts a vacation Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel (played by Geraldine Chaplin) took to an Austrian resort in 1954. It was on this trip that the designer became transfixed with a jacket worn by the hotel’s elevator operator (portrayed by Williams) that would later become the inspiration for the iconic Chanel jacket that we know and love today. In the seven-minute clip, Cara Delevingne and Pharrell Williams act as resort staff members who are transported to a dream world where they are clothed in stunning period costumes as they dance together and sing a melodic duet of “CC the World,” an original song composed and written by Pharrell just for the film.
“Reincarnation” will accompany the Chanel Paris-Salzburg 2014/2015 Métiers d’art collection when it’s shown on the runway today in Salzburg, Austria. Watch the film above, and look for Delevingne and Williams again when they reunite for the Paris-Salzburg collection’s advertising campaign in May 2015.
