Tyra…Tyra…Tyra…what a fashion fairy tale life you live. 1st on your way to becoming a brainy and hot, emphasis mine, college co-ed you decide to try this modeling thing. Instant “Supa” star. Then after conquering Victoria’s Secret runway and killing the Sports Illustrated swim suit covers, for what seemed like many moons, you quit. Wait for it… Only to have our couture muse spring “America’s Next Top Model” on us and 16 cycles later reality show domination. We could mention the channeling of your inner Oprah with the Tyra Banks show…we won’t.
What is our Models model up to now? You have enrolled into Harvard’s CEO business school, kudos Ms. Banks. And now the reason for this post…Net Entrepreneur is the hat wore today. TypeF.com.
Give information according to your body type and BAM Beauty and Fashion tip tailored for you. Oh, all courtesy of Ms. Banks. Check out Tyra and Andre Leon Talley artfully explain the virtues of the little black dress.
It may be redundant for me to state the world wide economy has stalled. The WORLD WIDE economy has stalled. A natural reaction to tough times is controlling one’s personal spending, i.e. luxury items. The cut back on balling is affecting everything from cars to clothing. The fashion industry is no different. Some designers are coming up with new ways to sell their wares. Recently, international renown, national know and locally loved designer Chilly-O partnered with SMKA (a multifaceted production company) on a signature design. Check it out here. The design was debuted at SMKA’s listening party for the highly anticipated The 808 Experiment: Vol 2. mixtape. The celebration took place at Atlanta’s hipster boutique WISH Atlanta.
Chilly-O discusses this innovative collaboration here. CAN YOU DIG IT?!
Recently, a somewhat known, high end fashion designer named Eric Gaskins was unmasked as the satire writing cat known as Fluff Chance. This brilliant feline has made waves by blogging about the industry with biting wit (no pun intended). Now the claws have come out about black barbie tokenism.
We at KISS say bravo Fluff for addressing the lack of women of color on the runway and in the fashion pages. Good read people. If you are not familiar with Eric Gaskins read his bio below you will be impressed.
Eric Gaskins (born 1958) is a New York based fashion designer known for his craftsmanship and technique.
Gaskins was born in Germany and grew up in Groton, MA. He attended Lawrence Academy and graduated from Kenyon College with a degree in Fine Arts. He moved to Paris where he was trained by Hubert Givenchy. After his return to the United States he designed for Koos Van den Akker, Bob Evans, and Scott Barrie. In 1987, he launched his own label in New York, where he currently lives. His design philosophy is “to create clothes that are essential, without artifice or contrivance”.
Gaskins releases his couture collections four times annually under his own line. It is modern day and evening wear. He mainly focuses on dresses, suits, and gowns.
He closed his design business in mid-2009, simultaneously announcing that he was the pseudonymous author of the notoriously biting fashion blog The Emperor’s Old Clothes, where he blogged under the identity “Fluff Chance”, “a hairless Sphynx cat that uses designers as a clawing post”.[1]
This is an example of opening your mind to the possibilities. A very inspired photographer Vlad Artazov did just that. Too the creative folks among us please enjoy!
